Wizard of Oz Mood Board
Join Ireland’s Leading Fashion Design Academy for Kids
This year at Project Fashion, join us as we leave behind a world of dull drab greys and step into a life of colour, magic and adventure as we explore our theme “the Wizard of Oz” (follow the yellow brick road, somewhere over the rainbow)
Thinking about the hidden narrative in the movie, we hope to get little minds understanding what it really means to look inside themselves and recognize the magic they already possess, all the while having fun designing their unique fashion piece!
- Experiment with different fabrics, textures and design techniques as you dive deeper into the theme;
- The movement of the tornado!
- The transition from black and white to colour!
- The rich greens and decadence of Emerald city!
The Tin man, The cowardly Lion, The Scarecrow, Dorothy, and her little dog too!
With endless possibilities and opportunities to be creative, using skills learned in class and adding your own flair, this theme will have you clicking your heels three times and saying “There’s no place like Project Fashion”.
DOROTHY
“There’s no place like home”
Dorothy is brave, smart, loving and independent. All the traits the rest of the gang long to find.
We can take inspiration from her signature blue pinafore style dress, a simple yet iconic design. The classic gingham print of the dress, the woven texture of the basket she carries, and the sparkle of her magical red shoes. Not forgetting the transition, she makes, at the start of the movie from black and white to a world of colour over the rainbow.
THINK
● Fearlessness in designing your outfits
● Blue gingham prints, experiment with size and colour of print.
● Pinafore straps: straps anywhere!
● Black and white or neutral coloured fabrics with pops of colour: brightly coloured seams painted onto a black design,
● Sparkling red shoes: magical explosions of colour!

FUTURISTIC LIGHTING
As it is now 2020 our Futuristic 2020 theme is very appropriate. Our Annual Young Designer of the Year Fashion Show will be held this June and we think it would be great to really get the learners into the 2020 theme.
We are taking orders for strip lighting that can be sewn into the clothing. The lights come in 1 and 2 meter strips. 1m is €2.50 and 2m is €5. An email will be sent out to each parent which you can reply to to place your order. We will be sending out more details about our Young Designer of the Year Fashion Show once everything is confirmed.
WEEKLY WORKSHOPS:
Learners will be taught to sew in a creative environment. We assign a new project every one to two terms. They will receive class notes and information on fabrics & designers. Our machines are very easy to use, and are all the same brand, Janome, which are equipped with finger guards. New starters will learn all about sewing machine safetly and basic operation. Learners will receive Project Fashion grading certificate’s on completion of each syllabus. Once they have received their certificate’s, they will join the rest of the group in more project based workshops.

They will learn the complete process of Fashion Design. Starting with Creative Thinking, learners will discover the whole thought process of how to transfer ideas onto paper. How to take inspiration from something. Producing a moodboard, documenting their thoughts, colours and textures. Then onto Fashion Drawing, where they draw their final design. With guidance from our experienced tutors, students will be trained in pattern cutting and garment construction. This enables the learner to explore, clarify and express their ideas through each of these stages.
Price: €91 for a 5 week term. Some projects can run longer than one term.
All new learners need to bring fabric for their Beginner’s Projects. Fabric choice is very important, it lets the learner express themselves and allows them to explore. The textures, patterns and colours can inspire ideas and allow creative expression. As the learner becomes more confident you will see this through their fabric choices and in their handling of the fabrics in more complex ways.
