This collection, students will explore the design possibilities, taking inspiration from the Jungle and Safari which are this season’s key trend’s

Brief: Design and produce an on trend wearable contemporary collection

Military style joins animal prints, tropical colours and camouflage to leave you feeling … Wild At Heart

Pattern plays an important role in this look. The palette is drawn from the Jungle with a mix of tactile materials. Faux fur offers a hint of the wild, while classic pieces offer a wearable street trend collection.

KIMONO:

Intermediate Level

Fabric Suggestions: Light jersey or viscose jersey, cotton; different weights, soft denim, silk,  sweat or any fabric you think looks good.  Non stretch for beginners.

Helpful Hint: Remember, it’s the details you add to the garment that set’s it apart from the others. Use your imagination this season. Fringing, embellishments, faux fur, stripes, bias binding

Great for holding all your fabric!

TOTE BAG:

Intermediate Level

Fabric suggestions:

Outer Shell: Denim/cottons/camouflage/felt/wool/corduroy or  anything relating to the theme

Lining: Cotton/Satin

Fabric Measurements:

Outer shell: 90cm width fabric = Purchase 60cm in length

Lining: Width 112cm = Purchase 60cms length

Interfacing: Width 90cms = Purchase 20cms in length (lightweight iron-on interfacing)

2 Decorative Buttons & 2 small re-inforcement buttons (shirt size buttons)

DUNGAREE’S:

Advanced Level

Childrens DUNGAREE’S

Materials:

  •  4 Denim Buttons
  • Overalls Buckles to accommodate a 3cm strap size for 7-12 Years
  • 15cm fusible interfacing (not necessary if you are using a thick denim)

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:

Denim, Twill, Corduroy, or any other fabric that’s suitable

DUNGAREE’S Age 14 years and 16 years. Choose from one  of the following widths which are available in the store.

  • 2 x 30-35mm wide dungaree buckles (or 2 x buttons)
  • 6 x 15mm buttons

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:

Medium weight stretch denim, needle cord or woven cotton or anything else that you see that is suitable.

Fabric suggestions:

Sweatshirt fabric  or Jersey

If you can’t get ribbing, you may use the stretch material from the garment itself.

TIP: Use your imagination when designing this garment.  Do some research and look at sweatshirt designs, look at the print and any embellishment’s they have used.  This is what will make your design stand out from the rest.  Changing the fabric on the sleeves, adding faux fur on the pocket.   A hood is optional.

TRENCH COAT

Advanced Level

Fabric suggestions:

Light to medium weights woven fabrics such as cotton twill, or canvas, cotton nylon blends, denim, gabardine.

Accessories:

Sixteen 1/4 inch flat buttons, 2.3 meters fusible interfacing.  Extra optional (advanced students only)  11 meters single-fold bias tape.

2 meters of fabric: (112cm – 150cm widths)

Two-way Stretch Knits, Performance Knits, Cotton Blend Knits.

Stretch fleece, terry, sweat, jersey, Ponte, Fleece, Denim,  Sweatshirt Fleece, Cotton Knits, Interlock.

Knitted cuffs/ waistband and neck (you can buy gorgeous pre-made ones in Hickeys)

Your open ended zip size will depend on the pattern size you use:

8yrs = 39 cm zip/ 10 yrs = 41 cm zip / 12 yrs = 43 cm zip

Cottons, linen, cheese cloth, denim.
