BEGINNER'S PROJECTS

Each of these beginner projects are aimed at giving our learners the skills to explore and express their ideas and develop aesthetic awareness. At Project Fashion we enable the learners to see and solve problems through imaginative thinking and creativity. With each of our projects below our learners will learn lifelong skills with each project expanding their skill set ready to start their collections.

No. 1 FABRIC BELT

Fabric Measurements

  • 60cm x 15cm of fabric
  • 60cm of two different colored ribbons at 2.5cms width.
  • 60cm of a thin ribbon.
  • Buttons, beads and trimmings to decorate as you wish.

What you will learn

  • Get to know the feel of your fabric
  • How to turn out fabric
  • How to iron your fabric
  • How to work with mixed media
  • How to hand sew buttons

No. 2 HAIR BOW:

Fabric Measurements

  • 28cm X 21cm of preferred fabric

What you will learn

  • How to hand sew
  • How to pinch fabric to give it shape
  • How to attach a hair clip/bobbin

No. 3 HEADBAND/BANDANA

Fabric Measurements

  • 22” square of preferred fabric

What you will learn

  • How to create a double hem
  • How to pivot around a corner

  • Two 30cm X 40cm rectangles of a different fabric
  • 80cm of cotton tape

  • How to create a pocket
  • How to create handles
  • How to create seams

No. 5 POCKET SCARF

Fabric Measurements

  • 25cm x 150cm fleece fabric.
  • 25cm x 150cm patterned fabric.
  • 2 buttons.

What will you learn

  • How to work with a stretch fabric
  • How to work with 2 fabric mediums together
  • How to embellish your design

No. 6 DRAWSTRING BAG

Fabric Measurements

  • 75cm x 50cm of fabric
  • 90cms of ribbon
  • 2 colored beads

What you will learn

  • How to create a tunnel
  • How to feed ribbon through the tunnel
  • How to add beads for embellishment

No. 7 APRON

Fabric Measurements

  • 45cm x 40cmof fabric for the apron.
  • 25cm x 20cm of contrasting fabric for the pocket.
  • 120cm of Ribbon. About 5cm wide.

  • How to create a waistband

  • 60cm of ribbon to match the rick-rack braid

No 9 LAUNDRY BAG       

Fabric Measurements

  • 125cm X 120cm patterned fabric
  • 20cm X 120cm of a contrasting fabric
  • 230cm of cotton tape

What you will learn

  • The importance of fabric choice
  • How to sew 2 different shapes together

  • 25” X 13” craft felt ¼” thick
  • 4” X 4” square of patterned fabric
  • 4 black buttons for the eyes (5/8” in diameter)
  • 2 pink buttons for the nose (3/4” in diameter)
  • 10” of thin ribbon
  • Non-slip fabric for the soles

  • How to work with 2 different fabric mediums
  • How important fabric choice is for the garment you are making
  • Revisit how to hand sew on buttons

  • How to measure for a custom fit
  • How to cut a shape out in the middle of the fabric
